Poderi Crisci vineyard encompasses 7.7 hectares on a north facing slope set amongst a sheltered amphitheatre and a narrow rocky strip believed to be 30 million set years older than the rest of the Island.
Located at the end of a country lane, Poderi Crisci is a family-owned vineyard and restaurant with Italian flair and a passion for traditional winemaking. For four generations the Crisci family have been immersed in the art of food and wine. Antonio, born and raised in Napoli, arrived in NZ in the early ’90s quickly making a name for himself in the Auckland scene with the establishment of Toto restaurant in Nelson Street. With his partner Vivienne Farnell they opened Non Solo Pizza in 1996, now an institution in Parnell.
The first merlot vines were planted in 2000. The success of the first vines led to the planting of other grape varieties and vegetable gardens with Poderi Crisci being founded in 2008 and the restaurant opening in 2010. Antonio, a visionary, has transformed the Waiheke Island vineyard into a place people will visit to wine, dine and have ‘layers of experience.’
Just arriving at Poderi Crisci you may well think that you have been transported to Tuscany.
Antonio Crisci’s life long passion for flavours begun with his grandmother teaching him the secrets of Italian cuisine, in his mum’s kitchen- Napoli, Southern Italy. His love of food drove him to open his first restaurant in his hometown at the tender age of 19.
With dreams of sailing around the world, Antonio left Italy with his travels eventually leading him to arrive by yacht to Paihia, NZ in 1991. He made his way to Auckland working in a few restaurants and was surprised by how few European products were accessible in NZ’s largest city. Still keen to see more of the world he travelled to Australia, Indonesia and back to Europe then decided to make NZ his home in 1993. Within a few months he begun to introduce his favourite Italian flavours through his vision of what an Italian restaurant should be, ‘Toto’ in Nelson St, Auckland. The flagship restaurant was welcomed with great enthusiasm in the somewhat barren dining scene of the era and quickly attracted Auckland’s movers & shakers. It is also where he met the then Maitre’D of ‘Toto’ Vivienne Farnell. They have two daughters, Bella & Marilena now aged 14 & 12.
Antonio’s influence in the Auckland scene is dotted around the inner city with Il Forno cafe in Ponsonby and what has become a Parnell institution, Non Solo Pizza, established in 1996 with Vivienne. It is still going strong after 19years. Antonio’s contribution to the industry was recognised in 2009 when he was voted ‘Outstanding Hospitality Personality of the Year’ at the prestigious Lewisham Awards. His presence is in demand at food and wine festivals such as Taste of Auckland, The Waiheke Vintage Festival and Festival Italiano.
Poderi Crisci is a culmination of his vision as a restaurateur, his Italian heritage and his commitment to living the New Zealand dream. On entry to Poderi Crisci you are immediately graced with old world style, charm and the bountiful gardens give you a sense of being in a self sufficient safe haven.
Antonio believes Waiheke is the ultimate destination for food lovers and that the vineyard fulfils the dreams of a lot of chefs. That is, to have a garden full of fresh produce to choose from daily and being able to create the menu of the day based on the freshest of ingredients.
Antonio loves being an owner/operator of his restaurants and he gives constant attention to detail and to continually uphold standards of food and wine service. He loves that he has the possibility to “entirely express my vision of food being an integral part of life”.

Our wines are lovingly produced in French oak barriques over an 18 month period in our underground cellar. Possibly the most beautiful cellar room in Waiheke.
Influenced by old world styled wine and grape varieties, our wines are produced with a respect for nature and minimal intervention on the wine making process. Focus is on quality above all else with the majority of vineyard work carried out by hand.
All the fruit used for Poderi Crisci wines is estate grown and selectively hand harvested. The grapes are extensively sorted in the vineyard to ensure that only the very best fruit comes into the winery, a second more intensive sorting process is then carried out prior the crushing, finishing with a natural melalactic and aged in French oak barrique using 25% of new oak for the red varieties.

One of the finest examples of a kitchen garden lines the entrance to Poderi Crisci. It is not uncommon to see the chefs in the garden sourcing what are definitely the freshest possible ingredients and herbs. Our garden is carefully managed by our talented head gardener providing fresh seasonal produce all year round.
From a bountiful herb garden, salad leaves and tomatoes, to artichokes, figs, pumpkin and some of the finest zucchini you will ever see. We truly believe you cannot match the goodness that comes when you go straight from the garden to plate. Via the kitchen of course.
The garden highlights the importance that we place in fresh ingredients used with high quality condiments such as our own olive oil and Sapa. Finish your meal with Agrumetto Citrus liqueur, Aquavite and other Italian influenced speciality products created at the vineyard.

An exciting Sparkling Rose with a fine yeasty, fresh bakery character reminiscent of Champagne. Floral nose contains hints of wild strawberry, peach nectarine and cassis. On the Palate, fine beads, very refreshing dry aperitif style. Wild Blackberry and Peachy with a great mouth feel and good length.
Poderi Crisci Rose 2019 (Merlot Predominant)
A great example of a Merlot Bianco style wine in the fashion of the southern French and Italian Roses. From Merlot grapes, the 2017 Rose displays light summer fruits with a flinty earthy character. The Salmon blush hints at the body, light and playful, a fresh lively Rosé, with a great structure with a very refreshing palate, dry style with a lingering fresh finish to stand up to all great summer luncheons. .

Subtle pale straw with mineral notes, pear, quince and honeydew melon on the nose. Hints of roses and Turkish delight starting to come through but still hidden by flinty minerality. Quite rich but also very focused, more pinot grigio floral character on the palate wixed with orange zest. Good mineral drive on the finish.
Poderi Crisci Arneis 2018
Poderi Crisci proudly lines up against a select group of NZ vineyards producing this exciting and cheeky variety from the Piemonte region in the north of Italy. Arneis is a colloquial term, translating to “Little Rascal”, a wine that exhibits intense citrus notes with apple, pear and vanilla in a bone dry style. An elegant young Chardonnay with a flirtatious light straw colour. Incredibly complex, flinty nose offering hints of freshly grilled nuts (almond) and marzipan alongside zests of citrus fruits.. A very finely structured wine with a good drive leading into a great lingering finish. An unmistakable Burgundian style Chardonnay.
Poderi Crisci “Viburno” 2014 (Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Montepulciano)
The 2014 Viburno exhibits the same strength of flavour and aging potential of previous vintages, with more subtle tannins flirting with the palate. The same intense dark fruits, leather and spicey notes are balanced with a smooth body and elegant full mouth feel. A special wine that is best appreciated with lamb and beef, but equally comfortable with a robust pasta.

The 2014 Merlot Riserva, produced in another exceptional vintage Waiheke has experienced. A very concentrated, intense nose, full of black fruit and cigar box with leather and burnt cocoa, showing great Merlot concentration. A very well balanced wine offering leather, berry and rosemary notes on the nose. The palate is smooth, refined and complex offering lots of earthy dark berry notes, a hint of cinnamon and spices compliment the silken tannins leading to a long, pleasant off dry finish. Wild mushrooms and anise compliment the medium mouth feel the wine has to offer.

The 2016 Poderi Crisci Syrah is an unmistakable Burgundian style Syrah, exhibiting smooth cigar box and cedar wood notes on the nose. I was lucky enough to have a booking over the peak holiday period. The venue was at capacity but still had an intimate, personable sense that you were sitting in your own personal paradise. The Italian owner has managed to evolve a scene that transports you somewhere to iconic parts of Tuscany or Provence, but still so Waiheke! The service was impeccable and the food to die for…..with the bonus that you lived to be glad that you’re alive to experience such scenic and gourmet enchantment. Go there if you can!

Perfect and delicious example of the Long Italian Lunch
At a huge farmhouse table our party of 18 members of the extended family enjoyed the most extraordinary array of exquisite dishes that seemed to never end. No dish was huge or heavy – it was possible to comfortably complete the meal, despite the multitude of courses. Yellowfin tuna with artichokes; “simple” breads with light and peppery olive oil; lamb chops with aubergine-stuffed potatoes; an amusing but delicious version of tiramisu… this was not even half of the list. And the wine complements were inspired.
Of course I have eaten Italian food in many restaurants in many countries, including Italy, but this felt more authentic. After our relaxing sojourn, we felt like we had truly experienced a fine example of a Long Italian Lunch.
It’s not often that I find myself writing a letter to the owner of a restaurant and I am not a food critic by trade (although I’d love to be). I do, however, have the fortune of travelling the world on business and have the wonderful privilege of dining in some truly remarkable restaurants. Poderi Crisci on Waiheke is one of those that are of particular remark. My partner and I visited for a long lunch on Sunday and were treated to the absolute gastronomic adventure, which is, Poderi Crisci. The uncomplicated nature of both the food and environment with the touch of indulgence and flare is a true point of differentiation and I wish you all the success in future. We are so glad we visited and will no doubt be back soon!

There are many possibilities for holding your business, team or social functions and events at Poderi Crisci. The Estate is able to hold intimate functions and events starting with 15 guests to full scale large events with up to 100 guests. No matter what type of event you would like to hold at Poderi, we will always give the best service and menu to suit your needs.
Some of our popular options for functions include the Barrel Room, set in the cellar of the estate. The room is beautifully rustic with sturdy wooden tables placed between the wooden casks and rows of stacked bottles, creating the most stunning ambience. The main restaurant and outer decked areas are perfect for larger functions and we are also able to organise marquees for extra undercover seating/ standing areas. The gardens provide a stunning setting for ceremonies and other event requests.
We regularly use all Waiheke transport providers including Fullers (Passenger ferries), Sealink (Car ferries) so are able to quote and / or take care of your travel arrangements both on the island and from Auckland.
Being at Poderi Crisci feels a world away from Auckland. If you want to create a special event with the most memorable food, service and setting, we will do our utmost to accommodate your group.

Harvest 2019
Heads up!! 2019 looks like being one of the very best Waiheke vintages to date!! We are thrilled to have harvested fruit of fantastic quality, which is presently undergoing a very special Alchemy in the confines of our underground cellar. A slow fermentation is ensuring that the wines exude body and character. This is definitely a vintage to look out for and our lucky En Primuer club members will be the first to enjoy the fruits of our labours. This is a truly magical time of the year as we move into the cooler evenings, a chance to warm up fireside and relax over our famed degustation dinners, or enjoy the all weather heated patio, offering al fresco dining all year round.

Poderi Crisci “En Primeur”
Be amongst the first to enjoy each new vintage of Poderi Crisci wines
Poderi Crisci “En Primeur” gives you the chance to buy wines as soon as they are released at prices that are well below the regular cellar door price. With the release of each vintage you will receive 6 bottles of each new Poderi Crisci wine, and will also receive a copy of the wine makers notes on the vantage and vinification process.
A great opportunity to improve your cellar with some wines that will never be on offer outside of Poderi Crisci restaurant.
Given the low production and boutique nature of Poderi Crisci, we take the time to ensure that every wine we produce is unique to us and has a history and story behind it as unique as the wine itself.
Restaurant, Wine Cellar & Roof
We can cater for up to 60 guests without additional marquees in our main restaurant area and can extent our capacity to 100 seated guests with marquees.
We can cater for up to 50 seated guests in the cellar. If you would prefer a stand up mix & mingle cocktail wedding, we can cater for up to 70 guests in this space. Our beautiful wine cellar is a highly enjoyed Winter wedding option.
We specialise in catering for 30 to 100 guest seated, to date our largest wedding on the cellar roof was for 100 guest.
We recommend a 1:30pm start and recommend the guests to catch the 12pm if coming from the city. (We can organise transport, the ferry tickets if required & have a list of accommodation providers). Usually we allow 10 minutes to get everyone onto the transport so they should arrive around 1:15pm
Room / Marquee personalising should be completed the day prior or by 10am and arrival music needs to be in place by 12:00noon (allowing for hiccups). We have a list of florists, bands, DJs and sound system providers or we can organise this for you.
We recommend refreshments for guests on arrival and/ or Sangria prior to the ceremony.
Ceremony scheduled for 1:30 to 2pm, an average would place the ceremony to finish between 2 to 3pm.
Bubbles to celebrate and offering of canapes prior or whilst having photos (we do have a list of photographers registered with us].
This is always hard to predict but Lunch / Dinner should start between 3:30 and 5pm.
Most wedding dinners range from between 3 to 5 hours depending on speeches and how much time between courses the bridal party would like.
Post Lunch / Dinner Music should be installed prior to 12noon. Dance floors can be added or we can offer a separate area like the main restaurant as the dancing area.
We are limited to strict hours,at 9:45 we start closing up with the aim of getting everyone going back to Auckland city on the 11pm boat which means that transport can be organised to also drop guests to their accommodation or the after party, we have a list of after party options available.

FROM OUR CELLAR TO YOURS
Due to the genuine boutique nature of the vineyard, a select amount of wine is bottled prior to public release. This is a great opportunity to build your cellar and create a collection that allows you to savour our skillful winemakers craft and the subtle uniquenesses from vintage to vintage.
This unique ‘En Primeur Collezione’ of 24 bottles is delivered in carefully packed wooden boxes, with a detailed description of the harvest, wine making techniques and winemakers notes for each wine.
You will be invited to join us for the harvest – including grape stomping if you wish – to have a full understanding the craft that goes into Poderi Crisci wines.
As a member you will also have the opportunity to create your own personalized label* as if owning a small part of the Poderi Crisci family.

Normally everyone feels like a special guest when they experience Poderi Crisci, but membership of ‘En Primeur’ entitles you and your guests to a few extra touches.
– A complimentary bottle of Ombra Sparkling Rose, for bookings of six or more at Poderi Crisci.
– An arrival drink for any booking of four or more enjoying the ‘Trust the Chef’ menu.
– San Pellegrino sparkling water and coffee or tea to finish for you and your guests on any Degustation and matching wine Menu.

From July to September members can, whilst dining, exclusively enjoy Poderi Crisci wines at the cellar door rate – a discount of 50%. Or purchase a case and enjoy two bottles at the table and take 10 home.
For members signing up during this period of the launch, we have introduced a special offer on the taxi fare.
As a member you will be emailed with ‘En Primeur’ preferential booking offers before we have any special events at Poderi Crisci or NSP such as our annual ‘Live Opera Night’, wine tastings,‘Masterclass’ cooking classes and charity lunches. These events tend to book out so we will invite you one week prior.
You will also receive a bi-annual newsletter and mobile notifications highlighting those events plus farmers markets and members only offers.

Reservation Policy
Please note that for all bookings, a nominated credit card is required to secure your reservation.
If you have not provided a credit card when you made your reservation, please call or send us an email to secure it. The final guest numbers will need to be confirmed 24 hours in advance, and this will be the minimum number that will be charged, as this is the number the kitchen works with for ordering and preparation. Failure to do so will incur a cancellation fee of $50 per person.
We will endeavour to contact you in advance of your reservation; however should we be unable to reach you, please call us or email us to confirm your booking 24 hours in advance at the minimum. We reserve the right to cancel your unconfirmed booking at our discretion and without notice.
Most dietary and allergy requirements can be catered for. Please email or telephone the restaurant to advise if you have any dietary requirements. Children aged 10 years and above our welcome to dine.

A visit to Poderi Crisci is an experience that starts with the journey. A chance to enjoy some of the finest scenery Waiheke has to offer over rolling hillsides and picturesque valleys. A journey worthy of the destination.
There are various options to get to Poderi Crisci. WaiCabs, Island Shuttles and Ananda Tours will be happy to meet your party at the ferry terminal and offer great rates to Poderi Crisci guests. Alternatively, and providing there is a sober driver, Waiheke Auto Rentals provide great deals on rental cars. We also provide a landing pad so you can arrive in style via helicopter.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Monday lunch bookings; a la carte menu or the ‘Fiducia Dello Chef’ Trust the Chef menu at $89pp excluding beverages.
Sunday lunch bookings; Our acclaimed Sunday Long Lunch. Lunch begins around 12.30 and runs through till approximately 3.30pm. The menu changes weekly $89pp excluding beverages. Other menu options are not available on Sunday.
Saturday dinner bookings; In the evening we run a 9 course Degustation Dinner for $95 per person excluding beverages. No a la Carte option.

2020, “Incomparable”
As we approach winter we note that 2020 certainly has been a memorable year and without doubt one that will go down in history. Poderi Crisci provides Socially Distanced dining and we welcome you to safely enter our Bubble. Thankfully, the 2020 Vintage looks like one that will also be “Incomparable” and we look forward to sharing this with you all in a more normalised future.
